Amaryllis bulbs are great to grow anywhere on earth and can be done at home without stress or exorbitant costs.
Follow these 5 simple steps to get started, and let us know your feedback in the comments section at the end of the post.
Top 5 Gardening Tips for Amaryllis Bulbs
1) Choose an Amaryllis bulb that is approximately 3x larger than the pot you will put it in. For example, if you want to plant an Amaryllis bulb in a 6" pot, choose one that is 18"-24" tall. You can also make sure to use a handy "Am I Ready?" sizing chart to better visualize the scope of what you're doing.
The sizing of your bulb in relation to your pot is very important. Obviously, it will grow, and to grow correctly you'll need to measure, plan, and double-check before getting started.
2) Fill your planting container with a well-draining soil mix. When gardening with Amaryllis bulbs, you'll need a well-draining soil mix to ensure that the bulb doesn't rot. A good soil mix will have a little bit of perlite in it, to help with drainage and water retention. Soil that doesn't drain well may present risks for anything you are trying to grow.
You can find well-draining soil at your local garden center or home improvement store. Just make sure to tell them what it's for, where you're gardening, and what your space size is like before you purchase.
3) Get some good gloves! This is more of a general gardening tip, but it certainly applies to Amaryllis bulbs too. To be a good gardener, you'll need some good gloves. Hands can get super dirty or cut if you're not careful, which is probably the last thing you want to deal with when trying to grow Amaryllis bulbs. Gloves will keep you safe, keep your hands clean, and allow you to garden more efficiently. Don't go cheap, either.
4) Have a well-organized gardening space. To properly care for and keep your Amaryllis bulbs it's important to create a well-organized gardening space. You can do this with ease by organizing your Amaryllis bulbs and tools in a simple garden storage box. Having everything organized saves time, reduces frustration, and keeps you from wasting valuable gardening energy looking for something that should be super easy to find.
5) Amaryllis bulbs can grow anywhere! You don't even need soil or sunlight to plant an bulb (after it's done flowering). If you want flowers but live somewhere cold during the winter months, put your bulb inside. You can store them indoors while they're not in use and enjoy their beauty for much longer than you'd imagine.
